Today’s quote and prayer from
“Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer”

Today’s Reading: Psalm 149:6-9

LORD God,
I want to grow in my love
for your word.
Help me to use it wisely
and deftly to the advance of your Kingdom.
Lord Jesus,
you are the living word.
Help me gain victory
over spiritual forces that oppose me.

Amen.

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made
that has been made.

In him was life,
and that life was the light of all mankind.

The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.
(
John 1:1-5 NIV)*

James—the brother of Jesus—who was this man? What evidence do we have that this “brother of our Lord” even existed?

David Kitz digs deep into archeology, family dynamics, church history, and the biblical texts. What emerges from his research is a portrait of a decisive, pivotal leader who embodied the will and character of Jesus Christ.

But how did James—James the unbeliever—transform to become a leader who changed the course of world history? In these pages you will uncover the answer and rediscover for yourself the life-changing power of the gospel.

Reading: Psalm 56:8-13

LORD God,
I put my trust in your Word.
I praise your life-giving Word
for it is good and completely trustworthy.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path (Psalm 119:105).

Psalm 100*

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.

God uses vessels in his hands to touch us exactly where and when we need it most. In our own experience, David’s daily insights from Psalms have been great. Not just in an educational sense, though that too, but his devotions touch us right where we need it. And often, it’s a word we can then share with a friend in need in a timely manner. Online and now in book form, both are a blessing!

The main body parts for reading the Bible aren’t the eyes and brain; it’s the hands and feet. This theme is woven throughout Psalms 365. As it should be! The focus on living the Word, or as James puts it, “doing it” (James 1:25) is what makes this study in the Psalms top-notch.

Low Rez PsalmsVol2SEAlOver the years the Psalms have become a great source of hope. David Kitz’s devotions are a great accompaniment to them. I find his writing both insightful and uplifting.

Almighty, the LORD, the word

I will praise the LORD!

(Psalm 68:11-14, NIV)*

The Lord announces the word,
    and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng:
“Kings and armies flee in haste;
    the women at home divide the plunder.
Even while you sleep among the sheep pens,
    the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,
    its feathers with shining gold.”
When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land,
    it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon.

Living the Word—now that’s a challenge. Are you up to the challenge? Can you get beyond reading the Word to the point of doing it. Yes, are you living out the Word in real time?RGB72PsalmsVol2

My hope is that through the daily devotions in this 256 page book, you will hear the Good Shepherd calling you to a deeper relationship with him. After all, a journey through the Psalms is a journey to intimacy with God.

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
    their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;
    he puts the deep into storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the LORD;
    let all the people of the world revere him.
For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded, and it stood firm.
