I am pleased to report that on September 21st, Ed Hird and I won a Word Award of Merit in the Biblical Studies category for our book The Elisha Code and the Coming Revival. We are both thrilled and grateful for this recognition from The Word Guild.
Lord, bring revival to our homes and churches. Amen.

This past Saturday I got some unexpected news. Volume II of Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer won the 2022 Word Award for the best book in the devotional category.
The win was unexpected because last year Volume I of the Psalms 365 series won the same award. Volume I also won a second more prestigious award—2021 Best Book of the Year. I did not expect lightening to strike for a third time in the same place, especially since there were several other excellent authors shortlisted for the prize this year.
Needless to say, I am very grateful to The Word Guild and the judges for their decision. To God be the glory. Great things He has done!
I am particularly grateful for the readers who have reached out to me to express their thanks for this daily devotional series. Positive feedback is what fuels me and other authors. A brief word of encouragement or a glowing book review has the power to affirm a writer’s gift and calling.
If you appreciate an author’s work, show it. Your feedback can provide the spark they need to continue in their craft and grow in their skills.
As for this Psalms 365 series, there is something very special about daily drawing close to God and letting His word enlighten your day.
Enlighten—I like that word. It describes what the Psalms can do for us. It was the psalmist who penned these eternal words: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105, NIV).
May the Good Shepherd enlighten the road ahead for you today and always.

The Grace Irwin Prize is Canada’s largest literary award for writers who are Christian. It celebrates the best book published in the associated year by a Canadian author who writes from a Christian worldview. Each year, all shortlisted books entered in The Word Awards are automatically considered for the Grace Irwin Prize.
During this secondary stage of competition, independent judges determine the winner of the Grace Irwin Prize. The prize is presented at The Word Awards Gala to the author of what judges deem is the year’s most outstanding book. All judges’ decisions are final.
With scores of books entered in the competition across multiple genres, I am humbled to be the winner of the grand prize, the 2021 Grace Irwin Best Book of the Year Award.
If you routinely follow my I Love the Psalms blog posts, you are in reality reading the daily devotions found in the double award-winning book, Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer.
Grace Lilian Irwin, after whom this prize is named, was a trailblazing Canadian Christian writer who passed away in September 2008 at age 101 after a vibrant life as an author, Classics scholar and ordained minister. Her alma mater, University of Toronto’s Victoria College, called her “an inspirational force in the lives of all who knew her.”
During her 38-year career teaching English, Latin and Greek at Humberside Collegiate Institute in Toronto, she spent her summers writing at her cottage in Haliburton, Ontario. Her first and best-known novel, Least of All Saints, was published in 1952.

David Kitz is a Bible dramatist, an award-winning author, a conference speaker and teacher. For more than thirty years, he has served as an ordained minister with the Foursquare Gospel Church of Canada.
David has a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies, in addition to Bachelor’s degrees in both Arts and Education. His love for drama and storytelling is evident to all who have seen his Bible-based performances. For several years now, he has toured across Canada and the United States with a variety of one man plays for both children and adults. Though born and raised in Saskatchewan, David now lives in Ottawa, with his wife Karen. They have two adult sons, Timothy and Joshua and daughter-in-law Jasmine.
In all things let the Lord be lifted up. He is the source of all wisdom.

It’s always encouraging to get good news as you start the new year. That was my experience on New Years Day this year as I got word that my novel The Soldier Who Killed a King was voted the top book in the biblical fiction category for 2017, by the Christian book service, Interviews and Reviews.
Yes, I was pleased! Winning this award bodes well for book sales as we approach the Lent and Easter season which will commence in mid February.
The book details the events of Passion Week as seen through the eyes of the Roman centurion, Marcus Longinus. He is the centurion who at the foot of the cross made this startling confession about Jesus, “Surely he was the Son of God!” (See Matthew 27:54, NIV.)
What led this hardened soldier to reach such a conclusion?
I think we often underestimate the power of the cross and the heart-gripping story that unfolded there. Paul, the apostle, did not make that mistake. Paul writes: Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:22-24). 
The real good news for 2018 isn’t that my book won an award. The true good news is that Jesus suffered and died a wretched death on a wooden cross, so that I can be redeemed and forgiven.
He did the same for you. Do you believe that?
Have you been to the foot of the cross lately? I dare you to go there. Go there and be changed—truly changed. That’s the real power of the cross. And that my friend is absolutely the best news of 2018!
This year I pray that you will fully experience the transformational power of the cross.
