Seek First His Kingdom

Today’s quote and prayer from
“Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer”
by David Kitz.Psalm 18_19

Reading: Psalm 18:16-24

Father God,
I want clean hands and a pure heart before you.
I put my trust in you.
You reward those who diligently seek you.
Jesus,
wash me clean.
I put my faith in you.

Amen.

— — —

“And why do you worry about clothes?
See how the flowers of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin.

Yet I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,
which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,
will he not much more clothe you—
you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying,
‘What shall we eat?’
or
‘What shall we drink?’
or
‘What shall we wear?’

For the pagans run after all these things,
and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom
and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.

(Matthew 6:28-34), NIV)*

Today’s quote and prayer from
“Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer”
by David Kitz.Psalm 12_6, NIV

Reading: Psalm 12

Father God,
give me a caring heart
for those who are poor and oppressed.
Help me to demonstrate care
not just in thought
but in practical ways as Jesus would.

Amen.

— — —

What good is it, my brothers and sisters,
if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?
Can such faith save them?

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes
and daily food.

If one of you says to them,
“Go in peace;
keep warm and well fed,”
but does nothing about their physical needs,
what good is it?

In the same way,
faith by itself,
if it is not accompanied by action,
is dead.
(James 2:14-17), NIV)*

Today’s quote and prayer from
“Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer”
by David Kitz.Psalm 139_23-24

Reading: Psalm 139:23-24

Father God,
you know my heart.
You know what triggers my wrong responses.
Search me and show me what needs to change,
and how to make those changes.
Lead me in the way everlasting.

Amen.

“Therefore I tell you,
do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink;
or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food,
and the body more than clothes?
Look at the birds of the air;
they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying
add a single hour to your life?
(Matthew 6:25-27), NIV)*
