God uses vessels in his hands to touch us exactly where and when we need it most. In our own experience, David’s daily insights from Psalms have been great. Not just in an educational sense, though that too, but his devotions touch us right where we need it. And often, it’s a word we can then share with a friend in need in a timely manner. Online and now in book form, both are a blessing!

The main body parts for reading the Bible aren’t the eyes and brain; it’s the hands and feet. This theme is woven throughout Psalms 365. As it should be! The focus on living the Word, or as James puts it, “doing it” (James 1:25) is what makes this study in the Psalms top-notch.

Outreach Trip to Europe

Estonia, Europe, Germany, Prayer, Psalms 365, Ukraine

I arrived home from my trip to Europe on Tuesday of this past week, but with jetlag and a hundred things to do on my return, I am only now getting around to writing a short report on what transpired.
I can sum up the trip in one word: amazing. Did God answer your prayers? Absolutely. At various times, I felt God’s invisible hand guiding my every move, and giving me just the right words to speak.
Harry and Inna, my hosts in Tallinn, Estonia cared for my every need. Their apartment is a few blocks from the old walled city and they were excellent tour guides.

The week-long Nordic and Baltic Foursquare Camp was a two hour drive from the capital. On the first evening, I shared my testimony of hearing God in prayer. This resulted in a heart to heart connection with one of the youngest campers. See the photo below. He too had lifesaving, heart-repair surgery. We compared our visible scars and from that evening on he broke into an enormous smile every time he saw me.

My young Estonian heart-to-heart brother.

The Foursquare Family Camp drew participants from Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Poland and Switzerland. There were wonderful times of prayer with one another. Everyone spoke English in the meetings, so there was no language barrier. On Wednesday evening, I met with three of the Estonian translators of Psalms 365. It was a true delight to thank them in person and present them with a signed copy of Psalms 365.

Also on Wednesday evening I did my dramatization of James. It was very well received.

Worship time at the camp.

Finally, on Sunday I flew from Tallinn to Frankfurt where I was met by my Turkish friend Faruk Said and his son, 15-year-old son, Omer. Omer was our translator as we drove three hours north to the family home in Dortmund. This portion of the trip was pure friendship evangelism, and time and again, the Holy Spirit was very present. On Monday we went on a sightseeing tour to the cathedral in Cologne, the largest church in Europe.

Muhsin A****n, a 22-year-old university student joined us for this full day excursion. Muhsin’s father has been in prison for the past seven years, since the 2016 coup attempt. These are false charges and simply amount to outright persecution. After he told his story, I was able to pray in the powerful name of Jesus for him and the entire Said family.

On my return to Canada I mailed a copy of The Soldier Who Killed a King to Omer and Muhsin, who said they would read it.

Me with the Said family.

In many ways, my brief stay in Germany with this family that fled Turkeye was the cherry on top of an exquisite Estonian cake.
There are far more stories to tell and a host of stunning photos in my collection, but this will do for now.

Thank you again for participating in this adventure of faith through your encouragement and prayers.

Please pray for peace to return to Ukraine!img_20230718_1411190

Specifically, you can pray for Dimitri, a Foursquare Pastor in Kiev, Ukraine. With help from western churches, his congregation is providing assistance to those forced to flee the war. He and his wife paid a brief visit to all who gathered at our Foursquare camp gathering on the Baltic Sea.

David Kitz, Devotions, Psalms, Psalms 365

By Hilda Young of the Ottawa Christian Writers’ Fellowship

  1. I am reading again your book “Psalms alive! Connecting Heaven and Earth.” You are fascinated with the drama in the Psalms!
Yes, that’s true. I also love the poetry and imagery in the Psalms.
  2. What gave you the idea of writing a three-volume book about the Psalms?
Psalms 365 did not begin like most of my other books. It began as a blog. I attended a Write! Canada workshop at the 2013 Word Guild Conference. The workshop presenter urged all of us to begin blogging. At first, I resisted the idea. But after I returned home, I relented and decided to give it a try. But what should my topic be? After trying a few things, I settled on blogging my way through all the Psalms.
  3. Why did you decide to divide it up in three parts? How did you decide on the divisions?
RGB300Kitz2AWARDThe publisher decided to breakup the manuscript because in its original form it would have resulted in a book of nearly 800 pages. The divisions fell very conveniently at the end of Psalm 51 and Psalm 104.
  4. Are all the three books about the same length?
All three books are about 265 pages in length. The print is quite large for easy reading.
  5. How long did it take to write and research?
From start to finish the raw manuscript took about two years to complete. Typically, I would write one devotion each workday of the of the week. Polishing the manuscript and finding a royalty paying publisher took much longer than the actual writing.
  6. Have you been asked to do any presentations about the Bible study aspect of the book series?
I led a Zoom Bible study of Psalm 51 just this morning.
  7. Have COVID restrictions made an impact on your ability to promote the books?
Yes, restrictions on travel and church gatherings have made promotion much more challenging. Fortunately, many obstacles can be overcome through online events and social media activities, but I miss the in-person gatherings.
  8. Do you have a favorite Psalm?
    David Kitz (2)

    David Kitz

I have many favorites, but at the top of the list is Psalm 103. It gives me a full, all-encompassing view of God and calls me to a higher level of worship.

  9. Is the photo on the cover of the book from the Holy Land?
The three cover photos are scenes from present day Israel. They have a timeless quality about them. I am very pleased with the Elk Lake Publishing team. They did a great job on all aspects of the book series.
  10. I notice on your blog that you feature a different Psalm everyday with a photo and commentary. Does the cross pollination of the blog and the books help increase book sales?
I admit not every regular blog reader is going to want a hard copy of my book, but some do. Also, some purchase the book(s) as gifts for loved ones. The blog also gives the book a broad international reach. On a typical day my blog has 120 views with about twenty of those views coming from in Canada. The rest of the readership comes from fifteen or more countries scattered around the globe.

Why dig into the Psalms? The Psalms are a poetic feast for the mind, soul and spirit. In them, you will find intimacy with God. ForPsalms 365 vol 3 a hundred generations, hungry souls have found nourishment there.

Psalms 365 is specifically designed to help you develop a life of worship and prayer like the biblical David. Let award-winning author, David Kitz, take you on a journey—a journey to a deeper understanding of God’s will and his ways for your life. Each daily reading provides insight and inspiration for practical Christian living, allowing the Good Shepherd to guide you to the center of his will.

Endorsements:
I’m not certain I’d be alive without the Psalms. While my wife was losing her family to Huntington’s disease we lived in its inspiring pages. We still do. David’s devotional is a welcome companion on this journey, particularly for those needing a fresh shot of hope.

Devotions, good shepherd, Psalms, Psalms 365

Those who routinely follow my daily devotional posts on the Psalms will be aware that yesterday’s post brings us to the end of the Book of Psalms. The Psaltery ends with Psalm 150—a final crescendo of praise!

Having covered all of the Psalms, where do we go from here? Back to the beginning of course. On Monday, I will return and begin again with Psalm 1. The Psalms can be enjoyed and put into practice over and over again. Each time we return to God’s word we can find new nuggets of truth and gain new insight.

All of my online devotions are now available in a three volume set of books entitled Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer.
3 Book Set 2021-08-04

There’s something unmatched about holding a quality book in your hands. Each volume is about 250 pages in length. The complete trilogy will take you on a year-long journey through the Psalms.

Here are some thoughts about Psalms 365 from Pastors Marjorie and Akihiro Mizuno of Christian Life International in Nagoya, Japan:

Not just in an educational sense, though that too, but his devotions touch us right where we need it. And often, it’s a word we can then share with a friend in need in a timely manner. Yes, I’m pleased to announce Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer, Volume I is shortlisted for a Word Guild Award in the devotional and inspirational category. It’s an honor to be recognized in this way.

As many of you already know, Volume II was released in late April. And Volume III will be available in early August. I’m working with Elk Lake Publishing to put the final touches on this three volume set of devotions covering the entire Book of Psalms. Putting together a complete set of devotions for an entire year is a large undertaking. Getting them published expands that project further.P 365-120120

I look forward to seeing all three books on my shelf soon. An award for Volume I would definitely enhance that experience.

For a closer look at Volumes I and II click here.

Watch for a cover photo of  Volume III in the coming days.

Daily readings from the Psalms are sure to enhance your life and walk with the Good Shepherd. Will you follow where He leads?
