Judah, praise, praise the LORD, Prayer, Psalms, rebuild, salvation, sanctuary, sing for joy, the needy, the poor, worthy of praise, Zion

Listen to Psalm 69:29-36 read by Jonathan Dent

https://davidkitz.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ps-6929-36-mix-2final.mp3

Reading: Psalm 69:29-36 (NIV)*

But as for me, afflicted and in pain—
may your salvation, God, protect me.
 I will praise God’s name in song
and glorify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the L
ORD more than an ox,
more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
The poor will see and be glad—
you who seek God, may your hearts live!
The L
ORD hears the needy
and does not despise his captive people.
Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and all that move in them,
 for God will save Zion
and rebuild the cities of Judah.
Then people will settle there and possess it;
 the children of his servants will inherit it,
and those who love his name will dwell there.

Response
LORD God, in my difficulties I praise you. This pain-prone human flesh praises you. Thank you for this life you have given me. Your goodness and mercy never end. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 68:32-35 (NIV)*

Sing to God,
you kingdoms of the earth,
sing praise to the Lord,
to him who rides across the highest heavens,
the ancient heavens,
who thunders with mighty voice.
Proclaim the power of God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
whose power is in the heavens.
You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary;
the God of Israel gives power
and strength to his people.
Praise be to God!

Response
LORD God, thank you for sending Jesus. Thank you for coming in frail human flesh—flesh like our own. Thank you because now we can know you as one of us—God with us. Be with me today and every day. Amen.

With God We Will Gain the Victory

I will praise the LORD!
Psalm 108:6-13

Save us and help us with your right hand,
    that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken from his sanctuary:
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah is my scepter.
Moab is my washbasin,
    on Edom I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?
Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.
With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down our enemies. *

I will praise the LORD!

Release for the Prisoners

Psalm 102:18-22

Let this be written for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created may praise the LORD:
“The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
to hear the groans of the prisoners
    and release those condemned to death.”
So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion
    and his praise in Jerusalem
when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship the LORD.

communion, Elisha, God, horses and chariots, idols, Prayer, prophet, Psalms, sanctuary, the LORD

Today’s quote and prayer from
“Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer”
by David Kitz.Psalm 73_12-20 -365a

Reading: Psalm 73:12-20

LORD God,
bring me to your sanctuary.
Help me to enter into communion with you.
Help me discern what is of real value
in a world filled with idols and shams.
Give me your understanding.

Amen.

— — —

When the servant of the man of God got up
and went out early the next morning,
an army with horses and chariots
had surrounded the city.
“Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?”
the servant asked.

“Don’t be afraid,”
the prophet answered.
“Those who are with us
are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed,
“Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.”
Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes,
and he looked and saw the hills full of horses
and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Reading: Psalm 73:12-20
This is what the wicked are like—
always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.
All day long I have been afflicted,
and every morning brings new punishments.
If I had spoken out like that,
I would have betrayed your children.
When I tried to understand all this,
it troubled me deeply
till I entered the sanctuary of God;
then I understood their final destiny.
Surely you place them on slippery ground;
you cast them down to ruin.
How suddenly are they destroyed,
completely swept away by terrors!
They are like a dream when one awakes;
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies (NIV). *

Seeing-Others-through-Gods-Eyes

Reflection
Psalm 73 is all about the envy we often experience when we look at the lives of the rich and famous. We live in a world of glitz and glamor. Glitz and glamor are pumped at us relentlessly through various forms of media. The common man or woman is just an insignificant nobody in light of the celebrity culture that pervades our society.

I find it fascinating that a psalm written more than 2,500 years ago is so relevant for us who live in the twenty-first century. The psalmist laments, “This is what the wicked are like—always free of care, they go on amassing wealth” (v. 12).

But there is a turning point in this psalm. The light of understanding comes on for the psalmist; the truth dawns on him. “When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny” (v. 16-17).

Understanding comes in God’s sanctuary. When we enter that holy place, the Lord can give us His perspective. We can see as He sees. A man’s arrogant boasting is exposed for what it is—a breath of hot air. There is no permanence to human wealth or achievement. In the eons of time, all is swept away. Only what is built on the Christ the solid rock will endure for eternity. True value, true worth and permanence are found in our union with God in His sanctuary—in His sacred place. I pray you and I will be found there.

Response: LORD God, bring me to your sanctuary. Help me to enter into communion with you. Help me discern what is of real value in a world filled with idols and shams. Give me your understanding. Amen.

Your Turn: How do you enter God’s sanctuary? Does your heart need to be prepared?

God, Mount Bashan, mountain, praise the LORD, rebellious, sanctuary, the LORD

I will praise the LORD!

Psalm 38_21-22
Reading: Psalm 68:15-18

Mount Bashan, majestic mountain,
    Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,
    at the mountain where God chooses to reign,
    where the LORD himself will dwell forever?
The chariots of God are tens of thousands
    and thousands of thousands;
    the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.
When you ascended on high,
    you took many captives;
    you received gifts from people,
even from the rebellious—
    that you, LORD God, might dwell there. *

Reading: Psalm 63:1-5

A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.

You, God, are my God,
    earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
    my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
    where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary
    and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
    with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
