Consider the Birds

A Book Review

If you have ever been thrilled by the sights, songs, or antics of birds you will surely enjoy this collection of forty stories about birds. These true accounts are written by authors from various locations across United States and Canada. Furthermore, the stories cover a broad range of birds, both domestic and in the wild.

We all need a lift to brighten our day, and each story did just that for me. I often read a chapter in the morning and another one before bed. Some of the stories are lighthearted. Others are poignant or deeply spiritual. All are very uplifting! They reflect an appreciation for creation and our Creator.

I am pleased to be a contributing author to this newly released book. Much thanks to editor, Callie Smith Grant for including my story in this anthology. Her animal themed story collections have sold over 350,000 copies.

As we begin 2026 why not take some time to soar with the birds?

God uses vessels in his hands to touch us exactly where and when we need it most. In our own experience, David’s daily insights from Psalms have been great. Not just in an educational sense, though that too, but his devotions touch us right where we need it. And often, it’s a word we can then share with a friend in need in a timely manner. Online and now in book form, both are a blessing!

The main body parts for reading the Bible aren’t the eyes and brain; it’s the hands and feet. This theme is woven throughout Psalms 365. As it should be! The focus on living the Word, or as James puts it, “doing it” (James 1:25) is what makes this study in the Psalms top-notch.

An Invitation to Joy

My initial impression of this book was not particularly strong—a good guide to live a good life. But as the chapters rolled by, I concluded there is much wisdom in these pages, and I needed to pay closer attention to what I was reading and how I was living.613O95czDcL._SL1360_
John Murray draws on experiences from his own life and others to illustrate important truths and values that when applied can bring true joy and fulfillment in life. This is not a self-centered, self-help book, but rather a book that draws us to give to others and to God in order to find true joy and worth in life.

This is sage wisdom for our times from an octagenarian who has lived out these truths.

Thank you, John Murray.

anointed, book, David Kitz, Elijah, Elisha, Jesus, John the Baptist, revival

The title, The Elisha Code, might make one think of a book like The Da Vinci Code and its search for a secretive, hidden key that would enable a special few to decode a mystery. Or it might even cause some to think back to the early days of the Christian Church and the rise of Gnosticism with its guarded secret knowledge available only to initiates. But not this book.
TheElishaCodeCVR5

For these authors—this “dynamic duo”—the “code” is there for all to see if they know where to look for it in God’s Word. What David Kitz and Ed Hird have done is to discover and reveal amazing—might I say, “uncanny”— parallels between the two Old Testament prophets Elijah and Elisha, and the two New Testament personages of John the Baptist and Jesus. The uncovering and displaying of these parallels, which help us see scripture with new eyes, is the heart of the book, and in themselves make it worth the read.

But one might ask, “To what end?” The authors clearly answer that question in the latter half of the book (and in the second half of the book’s title—the Coming Revival). The authors’ goal is not just cleverly to point out these complementary passages, but to bring the reader to see the conditions required for revival that will inevitably come if God’s people will meet them.

Delving deep into the lives of great men and women whom God anointed and used to bring about revivals and do transformational gospel work; and in laying out the spiritual requirements for revival, Kitz and Hird challenge us today to give ourselves fully to God so that we ourselves, living in this twenty-first century, might be his instruments in enabling the revival to come.

Last night I was surprised to see Psalms 365: Volume II is ranked number one in new releases in the genre of Christian Old Testament Meditations. Granted the field is not large, but when I last checked on Amazon.com my book ranked ahead of nine others in the category.

First place—I’ll take it with gratitude and not complain—narrow field or not.

If you routinely follow this blog, you have a good idea what the devotions in this 266 page book look like. They are the in-print version of my weekday posts. Volume II covers Psalm 52 through Psalm 104. And yes, you guessed correctly. Volume I covers Psalm 1 to Psalm 51. Volume I was released in December, 2020. Volume III will be released in late summer, and will conclude the three-book series bringing us through to the final psalm, Psalm 150. The full series provides a Psalm reading and devotional for every day of the year.

When do you want to start the series? Now is as good a time as any.

Connecting with God daily through the Psalms is a great way to allow the Good Shepherd to guide you to the center of his will.

Volume II of Psalms 365: Develop a Life of Worship and Prayer by award-winning author David Kitz is available now. For a closer look at this #1 new release click here. For a look back at Volume I click here.

Hallelujah! I’ve reached the finish line.

Writing a book and getting it published is a lot like running a race—not just any race—a year-long marathon. It’s taken just over a year from the date I signed the contract for this book until the date of its publication. That’s why reaching the finish line is such a significant milestone.

There have been plenty of ups and downs along the way, including a pandemic, a physical collapse, and open-heart valve repair surgery. But we have finally reached our goal. Psalms 365 is now available for purchase.

Much thanks goes to the Deb Haggerty and the team at Elk Lake Publishing. Derinda Babcock deserves a special mention for the cover design. It’s inviting and captivating. But above all, let’s give credit where credit is due. To God be the glory. Great things He has done! He is the inspiration for all the Psalms.

What goes into making a great book cover? What makes a book appealing? I suppose authors and book publishers have pondered those questions for quite sometime.

One by one, Elk Lake Publishing developed covers for my new book. The first two were good, maybe even very good, but somehow they didn’t have that spark that called out, “I’m the one!”

But cover number three called my name. I can only hope it calls your name, and other reader’s names too.
Screen Shot 2020-11-30 at 3.42.06 PM Thanks goes to Deb Haggerty and Derinda Babcock for their diligence in working with this author, who knows what he wants when he sees it, but he can’t always put the picture into words in advance.

With some slight modifications, this will become the cover of my newest book. Volumes two and three will follow in 2021.

I welcome your feedback.
